Week in the Life 2014, Complete!

I did the week in the life project at the end of October with Ali Edwards. It's taken me a few days but I finally have my album finished! It was my project last weekend and I am so happy to have it finished. I prepared for the week by making my own kit using the  * Pebbles Home+Made collection.  (I used the * Project Life Album (Pink Lattice). It worked perfectly with the Home+Made collection. You can see all my supplies HERE
Our week was an adventure. (I knew it would be a busy week with Halloween falling on Friday.) Our week included lots of costumes, spending lots of time with our family, and unfortunately a family emergency.
I printed 69 photos. 66 of them are 3x4 photos and 3 of them are 4x6 photos. I took all the photos with my phone. While I was editing and printing I was wishing that I had taken a few photos with my DSLR but it was such a busy week I forgot to grab the big camera. At times taking photos with my phone was a challenge.
My process for printing the photos went like this (it's probably not the most efficient way but it worked this time): At the end of each day I emailed all the photos for that day to myself. I then saved them to my computer in a file with the name of day that the photos were taken. I could have just printed them directly from my phone but I don't have an app that will print a 3x4 photo. If you know of an app that will let you print different sizes, let me know.
I didn't print my photos until the end of the week. At the end of the week I was able to print all the photos easily. After I printed them I sorted them into envelopes according to the day they were taken. Then I tackled the project of putting them all together. I made a 3x4 card with the name of each day on it as a marker of the beginning of the day and added the daily log of our activities.
Here is what my finished album looks like:

On Monday morning I actually forgot that I was supposed to be documenting and taking pictures. Oops, I had to backtrack a little bit.

The 4x6 card on the bottom right of this spread might be my favorite part of the whole album. I love the photo of that sunset.

On Tuesday I ended up with more journaling than photos. So there's a lot more reading to do on this spread.

On Wednesday we had a busy busy day getting ready for the kids Halloween parties at school on Thursday. We ran lots of errands and took lots of photos. There wasn't a whole lot to say other than what I'd already written down on the daily log.

The left side of this spread is the ending of Wednesday and the right side of the spread is the beginning of Thursday.

Thursday was the hardest day of the week. I got an emergency phone call from the school just after I had dropped my kids and my nephew off. It was a day filled with unexpected doctors visits and everything was completely out of our routine. It was also the day of the week that started the earliest for us. We were all up and running by 6:00 AM...that's a LONG time before we usually up.

I had lots to write about on Thursday so I created a flap under the 4x6 photo to make more room for journaling.

Friday was Halloween day so there are LOTS of photos. The kids were out of school and we spent the day having fun with our extended family.

Saturday was our most boring day of the week. It was rainy and cold outside, I wasn't feeling very well so we stayed close to home and didn't do anything super exciting. So there are not many photos.

Sunday we spent going to church and with our extended family. I love lazy Sunday's when I get to hang out with my nieces and nephews. It's seriously my favorite! That's why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, it's a day to just be with family. It helps that I have the most adorable nieces and nephews on the planet. I'm a lucky Aunt!

And that's a wrap for my Week in the Life project. I love how it turned out. It's always a lot more work to pull everything together than I think it will be. I do love the pocket page scrapbooking method of documenting our week.

A Week in the Life

In my living room there's a basket (actually three) full of mini albums. Even though, I need to find a different storage method. (Some of the albums aren't holding up very well to this system.) My kids love looking through these baskets and reading their albums.

Recently, I've been paying closer attention to the albums that my kids spend time reading. I've noticed that they spend time reading books about "when I was a baby" and a lot of albums about our daily happenings.

The album that they read a lot is the album I titled "Spend a Week with Us." I stumbled upon Ali Edwards, "A Week in the Life" and I loved the concept! I printed the forms out to record our daily routine and I got started. I documented our week and then a few weeks later I got organized and put the album together.  I was trying to remember if I did the project at the same time as Ali Edwards did hers but I honestly can't remember. I loved doing the project but I remember being surprised at how hard it was to keep up with it. I got caught up in doing our daily routine and I forgot to write down what we were doing and take photos. While I was putting the album together I noticed that I had a ton of information at the beginning of the week and then toward the end of the week I didn't have as much information or as many photos. Because my kids love that album so much and because after reading the last album I realized that our daily routines have changed so much, I've decided to do do another album titled "Spend a Week with Us".

This time I'm approaching the project a little differently and little more a lot more prepared. Ali Edwards has changed her project a little bit and she now sells a kit to go along with her project. I was tempted to buy one of her kits. They're beautiful! Just before I clicked "purchase" changed my mind. I look around at my scrapbook supplies and decided that I would put together my own kit. Here's what I put together:

Supplies:
  • Binder (I chose a 6x8 album)
  • Sheet protectors (depending on the album you chose)
  • journaling cards
  • pen (or 2 or 12) American Crafts Precision Pens are my favorite
  • Date Stamp
  • letter stickers
  • washi tape
  • 2-3 sheets of white cardstock
  • 4-6 sheets of patterned paper
I chose to work with the Pebbles Home+Made collection by Jen Hadfield. This is such a fun collection to work with and has a great everyday theme to it. There are tons of 3x4 and 4x6 journaling cards.

I chose the Project Life Album, 6 by 8-Inch, Pink Lattice and page protectors. I love how the album goes perfectly with the Home+Made Collection. I also grabbed the 6x6 Paper Pad . I thought the 6x6 paper pad would be perfect to cut into journaling cards and accent pieces.

I gathered a few letter stickers (Homemade Large Alpha Stickers)and embellishments.

I also grabbed some washi tape (Homemade Decorative Tape) and premade journaling cards from my stash.

I also created some printables to go along with my album. I've uploaded them (daily schedule and daily notes) if you'd like to use them as well.

They are created so they will fit into a 6x8 page protector.

Have you participated in the Week in the Life project before? If you haven't, gather some supplies, check out all the details on Ali Edwards blog, and let's get started! I'm starting on Monday, October 27th and I'll finish on Sunday, November 2nd. I'll come back here and share with you the finished product in November.
Really, come join me!
