On the Grid with American Crafts

Hey there! last week I had 2 layouts on the American Crafts Blog for grid week. When I received the challenge to create 2 layouts based on a grid the first thing that came to mind was a tic-tact-toe grid. I decided to create a tic-tact-toe grid by hand-stitching at 5 inches and 9 inches on my 12x12 piece of paper about an inch or inch and a half from the edge.

I added embellishments to the bottom right of the grid and to the right of the photo.

I added my photo to the center of the grid to keep it the focal point of the layout.

For the 2nd layout I created a layout based on Pinterest, not a layout I found on Pinterest on the actual Pinterest feed. I love the offset rectangles the fill the screen when I log into Pinterest. I recreated this grid by using 3x4 cards from the Plus One collection.

I placed the journaling on the back of the photo. It's easily viewable because it's only attached to the layout with a clothes pin.

And here's the completed layout, inspired by the Pinterest feed grid.

Hop on over to the American Crafts blog and check out the rest of Grid Week. I know the other designers have some amazing projects waiting for you there.

Mother's Day Gift idea with a Tutorial

It's almost Mother's Day. I've been working on a little surprise for my mom. I often give mini albums as gifts, especially to grandparents. Grandmas and Grandpas always love pictures of their grandkids! This Mother's Day I wanted to shake things up and try framing a mini album so my mom can display it at home or in her office. It's very simple to frame a mini album. Today, I'll show you how :)

I made my own album out of cardstock. I needed to make sure that it fit in the frame. The frame I wanted to use holds a 4x6 photo so I cut my cardstock a little bit smaller and made sure to leave room at the top for the rings that hold the album together. I have 3 kids and I wanted each of them to have two pages  in the album (one for a photo and one for journaling).
Most of the supplies I used for this album came from Dear Lizzy's Polka Dot Party Collection.
Each page was simple. On the top page I included a photo and on the bottom I created a page with a journaling pocket and card. Each of my kids wrote a message to their Grammy and placed it in the pocket.

When the album was complete I punched holes in the top. I held the pages together with some paper clamps while I punched the holes.
After I had the holes punched I covered the back part of the frame. The portion behind the glass where the photo would go with patterned paper. (I left the glass out of the frame entirely.)
I attached the album to the frame with double sided tape

That's all there is to it! My kids are so excited to give this to their Grammy because they helped to make it.
And here's the finished project:
What do you think? I think my mom will love it. The entire project took me about an hour. Not long at all.

American Crafts Valentines Blog Hop

 Happy Valentines Day!

Welcome to my blog for the American Crafts Blog Hop! I'm so excited to share a project about LOVE with you today. It's about love for shoes! I used the Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party collection for most of this project.
I've been anxious to try die-cutting some of the transparencies with my Silhouette. It worked amazingly well! The little hearts are adorable. I hand stitched with red thread around them to make them stand out against the white background.

And here's the final project! I simply adore how it turned out! Now, even though my little lady's shoes are gone we'll have the memory documented in her scrapbook.
Now you're off to the amazing Ashley Horton's blog. I know she'll have something incredible to share with you today! Thanks for stopping by! Please click the blue button to the right that says "join this site" so you won't miss any blog posts!

 {here's the full list of the hop so you won't miss anything}

Celebrate the Best Love

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to an amazing new year. We had a great Christmas filled with family, friends, and of course lots of food and presents! Everyone was feeling well for Christmas day but before and after were not good. We've made a couple of trips to Urgent Care and have gone through our fair share of Tylenol and Motrin. I hope that we're all on the mend now.

I've got lots of fun projects coming up that I need to get finished before CHA. I can't wait to show you all of the fun things I've been working on.

Here's a project that I recently finished for American Crafts. I've been wanting to dive in and create with the Dear Lizzy ruffle paper. It was so much fun to work with.

My husband and I have been married for 13 years. On our anniversary my oldest son took this photo of us together. I don't think any marriage is easy and ours certainly isn't either. But we're so happy together!

There's still some of this ruffled paper in stock at Paper Issues (it's sold out almost everywhere) get yours HERE. If you use the code 'becki20' you'll get 20% off your order.
Thanks for stopping by! Come back soon for a peek at lots of great stuff coming for Winter CHA 2014.
