Scrapbooking with One Inch Squares

Hello there friends, when I am on a design team I keep each collection in a different large ziplock bag . I keep all the paper and embellishments in the same bag. I even throw my scraps into the same bag. I often find myself with lots of strips of patterned paper when I'm finished with a layout. Usually these strips are about an inch wide and between 10 and 12 inches long. While I was playing with the Bella Blvd Tiny Tots I found a bunch of these little strips, I thought it would be fun to put them on a layout. I trimmed these strips (with a paper trimmer ) down to 1 inch wide and then I cut them again into 1 inch squares. When I was finished I had a whole pile of 1 inch squares. I adhered them to the background paper. I used a white cardstock base for this layout instead of patterned paper. I wanted the squares to stand out instead of getting lost in a patterned paper background.

I loved mixing these patterned papers. This collection is FULL of bright primary colors, perfect for kids. In this layout I documents a pajama party my son and niece had with their preschool class.

  I hand wrote the journaling above and below the photo and title.

So, if you have a pile of strips of patterned paper, here's a great solution for getting them out of the scrap bin and adding them to your layouts.

Preschool Tutorial Video

Yesterday I mentioned that I have 2 favorite collections that I've used for my back to school projects this year; Public Library from October Afternoon and Tiny Tots from Bella Blvd. Today I have a process video to share with you using the Tiny Tots collection. Here's the project I created:

He's Five! {Bella Blvd, Tiny Tots Collection}

My little man recently turned 5. I can't believe he's 5 already. It really does feel like he was a tiny little guy just yesterday. He means the world to his daddy and me. He's so much fun and makes me happy everyday! On his birthday we went to the zoo. I was able to snap a couple of quick photos of him. I decided to use on of Bella Blvd's new collections (Tiny Tots) to document some of his favorite things at the age of 5.

There will be inspiration all week long on the Bella Blvd blog using the 4 new collections. (I'll have a few projects here on my blog too.)
Here's the one I created using Tiny Tots.

 Even though it's a collection designed for toddlers. It worked perfectly for my preschool aged guy. There's the most adorable chipboard set to go with this collection. That's where the title came from.

Primary colors are my favorite to work with. I love bold bright colors and patterns.

This layout came together so easily. I simply used 2 columns of patterned papers and built up from there. I used one column for the photo and the title and the other column for journaling and a bit of embellishing.
